Scorpio Buys Four Tankers

Monaco-based Scorpio Tankers has acquired four LR1 tankers from Navig8 Product Tankers.

The purchase is made up of USD 42.2 million in cash consideration and USD 113.8 million in assumed debt. The two shippers have agreed to merge in late 2017.

According to the merger deal, Scorpio had to buy the four tankers prior to the closing of the merger. Scorpio will issue 55 million shares of common stock to the Navig8 shareholders in order to acquire the remaining 23 ships.

The eco-design fleet is comprised of 15 Large Range 2 and 12 Large Range 1 vessels with a total carrying capacity of around 2.6 million dwt.

​COSCO Shipping in Noatum Port of Spain

The agreement, concluded between ​COSCO Shipping Ports (Hong Kong) and Noatum Port Holdings is about selling of 51% stake in container terminal operator\s facilities. The $228 million worth deal will establish partnership to enhance port's capacity and maximize cargo volumes. The terminals, which are going to be influenced be this agreement are some of Valencia and Bilbao, also dry ports of Madrid (Conterail) and Zaragoza. Public container terminals will continue operation as previously, offering infrastructure and services to any shipping company.

Port of Long Beach and L.A. are planning zero emission

On June 12, Los Angeles and Long Beach mayors signed a declaration aimed to make a transition to zero emissions in San Pedro Bay, named Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP).  As per new agreement, the nation’s largest ports will reduce air pollution by moving toward zero-emission trucks and yard equipment. CAAP will implement new investments in clean technology within the next few years including zero-emission cargo-handling equipment by 2030 and zero-emission trucks by 2035.

The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will announce detailed plan in the next 2 weeks and fully updated program by November.

Stena Line Adding Fourth Ferry on Gdynia-Karlskrona Route

Stena Line of Sweden announced that they will add a fourth vessel to the route between Gdynia, Poland, and Karlskrona, Sweden. The additional ferry is necessary due to the increased demand for freight units. The vessel will should start service on Aug 28. 

“Our route between Poland and Sweden is strategically important to us and an integral part of the infrastructure linking the Central part of Europe with Scandinavia. Over these last few years, we have experienced extremely positive volume development and we believe this will continue,” Stena Line’s Marek Kiersnowski stated.

The new ship's name is M/V Gute. Chartered from Gotland Rederi, the 7,616 gross ton RoRo vessel will add eight trips per week to the route, complementing Stena Vision, Stena Spirit and Stena Baltica.
