Lloyd’s List Asia Names Maersk ‘Container Operator of the Year’

Danish shipper Maersk Line has been named ‘Container Operator of the Year’ at the annual Lloyd’s List Asia awards in Singapore. Maersk received the award for their market leading digital solutions and trade finance.

“[This award] is the recognition of the continued support we have seen from our customers and peers during a challenging time for Maersk Line, it is also great to take this back to our employees who really deserve this award,” Rupesh Jain, Maersk Line’s South East Asia Managing Director, said.

In 2017, Maersk added services between Asia and the US East Coast and Asia and West Africa, as well as on the Asia-North Europe route.

Trade Finance is an instrument which Maersk offers in Singapore, India, Spain, the Netherlands, USA and the UAE. The clients are able to borrow capital at a lower cost, allowing them to increase their global shipments.

Maersk also introduced the Remote Container Management system, which provides real time cargo data (location, temperature, humidity and other conditions).

GasLog Partners Buys Solaris

GasLog Partners of Greece has finalized the purchase of LNG carrier Solaris.

The 2014-built vessel is currently chartered by a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell. The aggregate purchase price for the 155,000 cubic meter vessel was USD 185.9 million.

The transaction was financed with cash plus the assumption of USD 117 million of Solaris debt.

The GasLog Partners fleet now has 12 LNG carriers.

Rotterdam  port ​increase container volume up 10%

Rotterdam​'s Port Authorit​ies informs that the increased throughput of containers related with a number of factors including solid autonomous growth in Europe, favorable position of Rotterdam with the new sailing schedules recently adopted.  

The port’s total throughput in that same period increased by 2 percent. In addition to containers, the key contributors to this overall growth were the agribulk and breakbulk segments. 

Rotterdam port increased  volumes in roll on/roll off (ro/ro) of 6.6 percent  during the last 9 month of 2017.  This growth was caused by increased cargo flows to the dominant market in this category.
