​​Busan Port reported the highest cargo turnover in 2017

F​or the last 141 years the 2017 was the most successful for South Korea. The container cargo volume surpassed the  20 million TEU mark. Busan Port Authority (BPA) have organized the celebration of the record and set a goal for further growth in 2018 and becoming a global port corporation in future. The port's budget has been increased by 10% and, in addition, port has invested over USD $48.5 million into development project aiming to attract tourists and USD $97.5 million for a new container pier construction. BPA is actively working on job creation and intends to introduce a new energy strategy, which will help to prevent air pollution

Austal Building Ferry for SNC Aremiti

Australian-based shipbuilder Austal Limited will construct a passenger catamaran ferry for SNC Aremiti of French Polynesia.

The ferry's seating capacity will be 620 passengers, with a garage able to hold up to 30 motorbikes, small vehicles and cargo.

The construction of the 49-meter vessel will begin in 2018 at Austal Philippines. The delivery is scheduled for July 2019 and the ferry is expected to be used on the Papeete – Moorea route. It will be the fifth ship which Austal has delivered to French Polynesia since 2002.

The contract is worth AUD 30 million (USD 23.4 million). “This order from SNC Aremiti caps off an incredibly successful year for our international commercial ferry business. We have added eight new vessels, worth more than AUD 380 million, to our order book in the past 12 months,” Ben Marland, Austal VP Sales & Marketing, said.

​Cotonou Port Under Belgium Management

​Early January of 2018 is to bring us a new international agreement in regards of ports development. Port of Antwerp International (PAI) and The Port of Cotonou will become partners with the same goal to modernize Benin seaport, which handles around 12 million tons annually and wants to become even more. The This agreement was approved by the Council of Ministers of the West African country of Benin and according to the plan Antwerp port will not only take the management, but also will invest and handle some key functions. That will develop Cotonou as a strategically important gateway to the countries of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.

Diana Shipping Signs Extensions

Greek dry bulk company Diana Shipping has extended 2 charters for its ships.

The extensions will see the vessels Erato and Danae continue their operation with Swiss-based Phaethon International Company AG at a daily rate of USD 10,500 (14-17 months) and 10,000 (13-16 months), respectively.

The shipper has also secured a contract for the New York, which will be employed by DHL Project & Chartering Limited of Hong Kong for USD 16,000 per day over a 16-19 month period.

According to Diana Shipping, the charters should bring in USD 15.99 million of gross revenue during their scheduled time frame.
