MEPs Calling for Ban of Heavy Fuel Oil in ArcticMEPs Calling for Ban of Heavy Fuel Oil in Arctic Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are urging the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to ban the highly polluting heavy fuel oil (HFO) from use in Arctic waters. HFO enjoys widespread use in shipping because it is a cheap waste product of the oil refining process. It is the dirtiest fuel on the marine fuel market. It creates pollutants which harm human health and a spill is almost impossible to clean up.
Shipping operations are on the rise in the Arctic due to previously frozen routes now being accessible. HFO has been banned from Antarctic waters. 2017-04-07

Future Growth of UK Container TerminalsFuture Growth of UK Container Terminals As it was announced by Associated British Ports (ABP), the huge UK port operator is going to invest GBP 50 million to improve the 2 container terminals in Humber due to growing demand. As a consequence the terminal's capacity should rise twice. ABP has already invested GBP 30 million for new ship-to-shore cranes for Hull Container Terminal. As a result, its capacity increased to 250.000 TEUs a year, as well as Immingham Container Terminal' capacity increased even more after investment. As a reminder, ABP invested GBP 50 million for the Southampton port development , which recently became one of the busiest terminals of the UK. |
