Chevron Launches New Crude Carriers

US-based energy major Chevron has launched three new very large crude carriers (VLCCs): Houston Voyager, Pascagoula Voyager and San Ramon Voyager.

Splashed at Daewoo shipyard in South Korea, the 318,000 dwt vessels are 336 meters long and 60 meters wide. Each one has a capacity of 2 million barrels and will trade mainly between the Arabian Gulf and the US, according to the company.

Green Loan For NYK

Japan's NYK has secured a green loan to finance the construction of its first methanol-fueled chemical tanker.

The 10-year loan of JPY 2 billion (USD 18 million) will be provided by Taiyo Life Insurance Company. The green loan reflects the increasingly tougher environmental regulations in the shipping industry, such as the 2020 sulphur cap.

“NYK will promote green finance and continue its efforts to keep a wide range of stakeholders involved in the company’s proactive approach to environmental investment as the company makes efforts to contribute to realizing a sustainable society with technology that lessens environmental burdens,” the company stated.
