The top six South Korean shipbuilding companies have set a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

In a joint declaration, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, Hyundai Mipo Heavy Industries, and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding stated they are committed to making their businesses carbon neutral.

The firms aim to increase the use of renewable energy in their production processes, build eco-friendly ships powered by alternative fuels and develop specialized energy monitoring systems.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of South Korea.
