NY & NJ Port welcomed the first vessel over 13 000 TEUNY & NJ Port welcomed the first vessel over 13 000 TEU On July 17 the Port of New York and New Jersey welcomed the largest container vessel of Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Hong Kong-based container carrier. The length of 13 000 TEU OOCL Berlin is more than 1 200 feet or the equivalent of 4 football fields. It is the biggest ship to transit under the Bayonne Bridge roadway. The containership was constructed in 2013 at South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard and it will be joined by the OOCL Malaysia, a sister ship of identical size, later this summer. Three other vessels of the same group - the OOCL France, the OOCL Korea, the OOCL Chongqing - will be considered for for future rotation to NJ and NY, based on market conditions in the second half of 2017. 2017-07-17
LNG Terminal in GermanyThe European Commission has approved the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Northern Germany. Gasunie LNG Holding, Oiltanking GmbH and Vopak LNG Holding will set up a joint venture to own and operate the facility. The multi-service LNG terminal is planned to be built in Brunsbüttel, close to the city of Hamburg. The feasibility study is underway. The level of financial investment has not been determined yet. 2017-07-14
South Carolina Ports shows cargo increaseSouth Carolina Ports shows cargo increase South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) recorded 2.14 mln TEUs during its fiscal year 2017 which is 10 % more than during the last period. This June's cargo volumes were the highest ever with 183,237 TEUs, 104,101 containers were moved through its two terminals. For the records, port's previous fiscal year 2016 handled 1.98 mln TEUs. Moreover, as per the port of Charleston its Inland Port Greer made record rail lifts in June - 13,060 lifts. 2017-07-13
+1 Giant to Maersk FamilyThanks to Hyundai shipbuilders in South Korea, the Maersk fleet got one more H-Class containership, which got the name of Maersk Horsburgh. The new creature belongs to the ultra large container vessels class. Capable to carry more than 162 tons, it is 353 m long and 53.5 m wide. That's the ship, that will transport 15,226 TEU at the same time and was announced to worth more than USD 113 million. 2017-07-10

The port is expected to play a crucial role in the economic and social growth of the Al Dhafra region. The multipurpose facility on the eastern side of Delma Island is capable of handling cargo and passenger vessels. It should also boost tourism in the region. “The Delma Port project is one that promises to be a foundation stone in the development of the Al Dhafra region through its focus on meeting the highest quality standards. In addition, the deep foresight and strategic thinking that has gone into the planning of this project is evidence of Abu Dhabi Ports’ commitment to the success of Delma Port in accordance with the objectives of our government,” Faris Khalaf Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Chief of the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones, and Board Member of Abu Dhabi Ports, said. |
