New Digital cooperation

The Hamburg Vessel Coordination Center (HVCC) and the Rotterdam Port Authority have entered into a digital cooperation to improve operational processes.

Both ports will exchange relevant data through a digital interface and it will allow shipping companies steer their ships more efficiently and optimize their terminals resource planning.

The joint project was launched at the beginning of 2018 and, as of recently, the HVCC and the Rotterdam Port Authority exchange data directly via IT systems. The information pertains to planned and actual arrival and departure times for ships coming from or heading to either Hamburg or Rotterdam.

According to HHLA, this direct line of communication improves the basis for planning for both ports as well as for the shipping companies that use these ports, thus ensuring the ability to react quickly in the case of schedule changes.

The direct data exchange between Hamburg and Rotterdam is the logical first step towards building a ports network all over Europe, especially in order to increase the ability to react to delays.

The digital cooperation is achieved through an interface, which links the HVCC software with the PRONTO platform used in Rotterdam. This allows real-time data exchange along the lines of the Port Call Standard of the International Harbour Masters’ Association (IHMA).

New Ship For Costa Cruises

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has held a float-out ceremony of Costa Venezia, the first Costa cruise ship built specifically for the Chinese market.

Costa Cruises is the Italian branch of Carnival Corporation. The 323-meter-long Costa Venezia will start service in March 2019, with a homeport in Shanghai. Its capacity is over 5,100 guests.

“As our first ship built specifically for the Chinese market, Costa Venezia marks a new era not just for Costa Cruises and Fincantieri but for the Chinese cruise industry as a whole,” Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Group Asia, said.

Costa Venezia will be followed by Costa Smeralda, the new flagship of Costa Cruises, scheduled for delivery in October 2019.
