The brand new Panama Canal Atlantic Gate opened yesterday its first new rolling gate. Let us remind you, the Canal is planned to be expanded with new giant 18 locks. Each gate is 3.200 tons in average, 427 meters long and 55 meters wide. The new canal will mostly influence the traffic between Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, that will be vastly reflected on trade volumes.

Texas port resumed its work

Houston exit port has reopened its ship channel yesterday after it was closed for 2 days due to Tropical Storm Bill. Commercial traffic was restored in North Austin as well despite heavy scuds. As for shipment, vessel movements will continue its functioning only after weather conditions being stabilized.

Texas port areas are preparing for heavy rain forecasts and tropical storms over next 2-3 days.

Along the Texas coast warning area the Tropical Storm Bill will make a landfall and will be moving inland over the south-central Texas.

Houston is one of the most dangerous areas  of the storm , but currently the expected flood and heavy rainfall are the main issues. As per the US Coast guard sector COTP recommends containers to be stacked no higher than two due to the high wind gusts.

The port Freeport was closed for all night traffic on Monday. resuming of normal operation is expected on Thursday.

In respond to constantly changing market demands some changes in North America - Asia services are going to be implemented.

The G6 Alliance which consists of 6 shipping lines (APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha and Orient Overseas Container Line) has announced new port rotation for CC2 (Central China 2): Ningbo – Shanghai – Pusan – Long Beach – Ningbo.
There is also another port rotation - SC1 (South China 1) that includes Xiamen – Chiwan – Yantian – Kaohsiung – Los Angeles – Oakland – Kaohsiung – Xiamen.
