Buick Electra, a full-size luxury sedan had a 30 year run from 1959 to 1990. During this period the vehicle came in a whole range of body styles that included the coupe, sedan, convertible and the station wagon. In 1991 the Electra was replaced by the Buick Park Avenue.

The 1959 Buick Electra used the C Body of General Motors which was also shared by Cadillac and Oldsmobile 98. The only available engine at that time was the 325hp Wildcat V8 engine with a 2 speed Dyna-flow Automatic transmission. Other standard features like power brakes and power steering were also part of the standard package.

Over the years Electra went through many facelifts and in 1961 it had a major redesigning along with other Buick models like the LeSabre and the Invicta. Buick Electra had a wheelhouse molding and bright rocker panel along with 4 venti-ports on each front fender. This was the hallmark of the Buick car. The standard trims for the interior was fabric but an optional customization in the interior trims was also possible in leather or vinyl with contrasting vertical lines.

In 1977, GM downsizes their C body and as a result Buick Electra lost a total of 11 inches in length and some weight as well. This gave the company an opportunity to totally redesign the car. The Base and the Limited Edition trim continued to be available and an additional top of the line Park Avenue was also made available. The downsizing led to an increase in sale.

1985 saw another round of redesigning and Buick Electra debuted as a 4 wheel drive vehicle with a new C Body. The size was again reduced however the interior cabin continued to remain the same size. The V8 engine was also replaced by new and refined 3.0L V6 engine, 3.8L fuel injected V6 engine or 4.3L Oldsmobile diesel V6 engine.
