What is the difference between RoRo and Container consolidation?

“RORO” means that your vehicle will be driven under its own power  inside a special cargo ship. This method of shipment is available to various destinations and does not involve consolidation.

Container shipping is the most popular way to ship a vehicle. Basically, your car will be loaded inside 20 feet or 40 feet container, and the container will be sealed. If a car is loaded inside a 40 feet container, there is also space for at least 2 more regular-sized cars. It’s called container consolidation when 3 or 4 cars of different buyers are loaded inside one container and go towards the same shipping destination.

When you open “Similar Vehicle Price Statistics Results” located under the “BID Information”, you will see the list of similar cars and the prices for which they were sold. With this information you will know the approximate amount for a winning bid.

Port of Virginia To Begin Channel Deepening

The Virginia Port Authority has signed a deal with Weeks Marine of New Jersey to deepen the western side of the Thimble Shoal Channel.
The project is set to begin in January 2020 and should make Virginia the deepest port on the US East Coast. The first phase of the contract is valued at USD 78 million and the total cost of the project will be USD 350 million.

The shipping channels will be dredged to 55 feet and widened to over 1,400 feet in some spots.
“The vessel sizes continue to expand, so safe, two-way ultra-large container vessel traffic is important to the sustainability and efficiency of this port and to the ocean carriers using the channel,” John F. Reinhart, CEO of the Virginia Port Authority stated.
