EU Approves Public Funding for New Calais Terminal

The European Commission has decided that public funding of 270 million EUR to build a new terminal in the Port of Calais is in accordance with EU regulations. The new facility should further EU transport policy without imbalancing competition.

Based on the financial analysis done by France, it is evident that the terminal operator’s income would not be enough to cover the investment cost over 50 years. Public funds were thus needed in order to carry out the project.

The new facility is expected to help the Port of Calais deal with traffic blockades and strikes, as MyFerryLink workers feel their jobs might be in jeopardy.

First successful operation of container widening went through!

Recently the one of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) container ships MSC Geneva has been under process of widening. This is the first of three ships planned to be improved. It was trailed last month and now is ready to go between China and South America.
The premiere of the first widened containership  was celebrated with 150 guests. It also included a special tour of the ship in Shanghai.
Let us remind you, the ship was totally cut and completely changed it's structure. It's capacity grew with additional 30% of space and about 6000 containers instead of 4872.
This project seems to have a big future.

MyFerryLink operator has cancelled all recent service due to strikes

MyFerryLink company is not going to have sailing on July, 2 as per schedule because of workers' strike at the port. Events have happened after announcement that about 200 employees will be fired according to integration of Eurotunnel and DFDS. MyFerryLink will keep working on this issue to have restored planned sailings for the next month caused by disturbance of huge workforce.
