N​ew Liverpool2 Container Terminal Starts Operation Today

​As per the port operator Peel Ports, the UK's second deep water terminal is to open today, November 4th. This container was designed to handle the largest ships in the world, its capacity ~1 million containers a year.

According to local port authorities, this terminal created a new gateway for trade. It's infrastructure includes road, rail and all possible canals for the connection with mainland.

The terminal has 5 'megamax' STS cranes and 12 quayside container cranes, but their quantity is going to rise ultimately. Therefore, the UK container market is expected to rise  by 15%.

First Unmanned Vessel Will Sail in 2018

U​p to now there were only automated boats brought to operation, but according to ​international classification society DNV GL and the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) there is no technical limits for full size vessels design. 

The UK’s Automated Ships Ltd and Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime have signed a memorandum to build the world's first vessel to handle different offshore operations. The construction of this fully automated ship will start in January 2017 and it's going to enter service in 2018.

RoRo shipping company Compagnie Luxembourgeoise d’Navigation (CLdN) set up a new cargo service between Sweden, Gothenburg and  the Netherlands, Rotterdam, which will be available twice a week.

This way CLdN will have 5 departures weekly from the Logent Ports and Terminals  at the Port of Gothenburg: 2 to Rotterdam and 3 to Belgium’s Zeebrugge.

Also in March 2016 CLdN started operating between  Denmark and  Gothenburg Port  to improve shipping between Sweden, Iceland, Norway and the Faroe Islands.
