Rolls-Royce Will Be Making Ships of New Generation

Monday it was announced about strategic partnership between Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre and Rolls-Royce. The co-work aim is a design, testing and validation of the first ever created fully-automated and remotely controlled ships. New devices are planned to be brought into exploitation by the end of decade. 

Rolls-Royce Marine is a member of Norwegian Forum for Autonomous Ships (NFAS) and such innovation smart concept project is a big step towards remote technologies applied in every industry - automobile, shipbuilding, telecommunication, etc.

P&O Ferries opens its renewed terminal in Zeebrugge, Belgium

A Pan-European ferry operator has opened  an expanded terminal that will increase freight capacity which has to satisfy rising demand from British exporters. The new terminal of 14 hectares will give ferry company opportunity to handle 700,000 units per year comparing to the current 370,000 units. P&O Ferries currently has 20 vessels which operates between the Republic of Ireland, Britain and France. 

New Service on Transpacific Route

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), based in Switzerland, has a plan to make a new Sequoia service on Transpacific route with US West Coast and Canada. 
This is the 6th Transpacific service of MSC, it will  connect California's Long Beach and South China. It is starting in December this year.  First vessel, container ship Safmarine Mulanje 649N, will dispatch from Chiwan, China.

The new Sequoia service route will be as follows: Chiwan, Yantian, Ningbo (China), Long Beach (US).

European Investment Bank (EIB) and Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking signed an agreement guaranteeing EUR 150 million (USD 163 million) for shipbuilding projects promoting environmental protection.

The deal is part of the Investment Plan for Europe. Alain Vidalies, French Secretary of State for Transport, the Sea and Fisheries, said: “The Government decided to implement this financial tool by agreeing to a pilot project in France. What we are unveiling today is an initial illustration of this dynamic, which I hope will spread across our maritime economy, leading to similar agreements in other sectors, particularly ports.” 

"This is the first framework agreement for making the maritime sector greener in Europe,” Ambroise Fayolle, EIB Vice-President, said.

Budgeted at EUR 750 million, this new system will finance shipbuilding projects, as well as the conversion and modernisation of existing vessels. It will promote investment in the development of technologies to improve energy efficiency and support sustainable transport.
