Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), Evergreen and APL are launching a joint China-Australia service.

Starting on August 17, the weekly service will include the ports of Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Five Panamax vessels will be used on the route, with HMM providing two and Evergreen and APL three vessels.

The service is a response to the rising trade demand on the route.

Polish Port of Gdansk Authority has launched a call for tenders in order to find a contractor for the expansion of the Polnocne Quay — one of the largest projects carried out by the port authority.

The expanded Polnocne Quay will be used primarily for Ro-Ro shipments.

As informed, the contractor will be responsible for the construction of a parking section of the quay with bottom reinforcement, a universal section of the quay with infrastructure, a Ro-Ro ramp, and a transshipment section of the quay along with infrastructure and a closing section.

Potential contractors have to submit their tenders until the end of July. Construction work is expected to start this year and complete in 2020.

Eventually, several terminals with various purposes, including a bulk cargo terminal, a general cargo terminal, a passenger terminal, and a terminal for the Ro-Ro type of cargo are to be constructed over an area of about 500 ha.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean has purchased the Neo-Panamax ship MV Titus.

Capable of carrying 8,000 cars, MV Titus is a Post-Panamax vessel built at the CSIC Xingang shipyard in China. It has a High Efficiency RoRo (HERO) design which reduces energy consumption and emissions.

“For a modern, efficient and environmentally sound fleet, Wallenius Wilhelmsen continues to replace older tonnage with modern vessels in line with our long-term plan. As it starts its journey today, Titus is one of the most efficient neo-panamax vessels on the seas,” Michael Hynekamp, President & COO Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean, said.
