​Canadian Prince Rupert Port​ Got New Cranes

T​he port's expansion is going on and recently the 3 Malacca-max dock gantry cranes ​have been delivered to Fairview Container Terminal, which is located in Canada’s British Columbia.

As per the ports authorities each of cranes is capable operating world's largest vessels with horizontal reach of 25 containers. That's the milestone for Prince Rupert port, as new equipment will increase port's capacity by 500,000 TEUs and will make it 1,35 million TEUs in total. Installation process is planned to be completed by by the forth quarter of 2017.

​As an addition, Canadian DP World Inc, operating the terminal, will include one more deep-water berth, 3 more gantry cranes and proceed with container yard expansion.

CMA CGM Posts USD 86 Million Profit

French shipper CMA CGM reported an income of USD 86 million in the first quarter of 2017.

This marks a turnaround from Q1 of 2016 when the company absorbed a USD 100 million loss.

For the first time since its acquisition, APL has contributed positively to the group’s results.

“This result demonstrates the group’s operational efficiency and expertise, and positions CMA CGM in the first place for operational performance among the leading industry players,” the company said.

The main reason for the rise in profitability was the increase of average revenue per container carrier. 

CEO Rodolphe Saadé stated: “Although the shipping industry still faces strong headwinds, we are confident our strategy should allow to improve operational results over the next quarter, leveraging the new Ocean Alliance and maintaining our focus in operational efficiency and innovation to the benefit of our customers. We continue to reinforce our position as a leading player in our industry.”

OOCL Hong Kong is the largest containership 

After being for 2 months as the biggest boxship, MOL Triumph, with 20,000 TEU capacity, has passed this title to OOCL Hong Kong with 21,413 TEUs. Hong Kong-based shipping company OOCL celebrated its opening at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje on May 12. OOCL Hong Kong is 399.87 meters length and 58.8 meters breadth. This is the first of 6 ships ordered by OOCL company at SHI with a total cost of USD 950. OOCL Hong Kong will be routing Asia-Europe trade line with following stop ports: Ningbo, Xiamen, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore in Asia and through Suez Canal to Wilhelmshaven, Rotterdam, Gdansk, Felixstowe in Europe.
