Samskip Endeavour Uses Vegetable Oil as Fuel

The Samskip Endeavour, a containership that carries over 800 containers, has been supplied with hydrotreated vegetable oil instead of fossil fuel.

The switch was made within the scope of the Goodshipping Program, a global marine initiative that aims to change the fuel type used in ocean shipping. If a shipper is interested in reducing their environmental footprint, they can contact Goodshipping and arrange a biofuel swap at a particular port.

Goodshipping Program stated: “With this first bunkering, GoodShipping shows that it is possible for cargo owners to influence the carbon footprint of the sea freight in their supply chain. Thanks to the principle of mass balance, any company can join our program and have their sea freight shipped climate-neutral. Next to that, we are increasing demand and accelerating R&D in the field of marine biofuels.”
