Satellite technologies to keep ships away from troubles.

Liberian Registry has developed satellite-based Compliance Assistance Programme (CAP) , this program is helping to prevent delays and issues in most overloaded world ports.

The satellite CAP is tracking vessels when they enter chosen areas and allows analysis team to perform detailed reviews of vessels, history, and ports they are arriving.

Such way of control helped to reduce detentions and delays in heavily traffic ports such as in China.
 

​The wave of port strikes reached Peru.

It was announced that starting 13th of May, the extreme important chief Callao port will stop working on indefinite period of time. The reason is that local dockworkers hasn't been able to agree on new collective working conditions. As a result around 95% of the affiliated with the port union workers claimed for 48 hours strike. However the the accurate time frames for this action are not defined. The Callao port is the most important and efficient port for Peru's international trade.​

New terminal in British Columbia

Port Metro Vancouver has filed paperwork for a new container terminal in Delta, British Columbia.

The Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project would boast a container capacity of 2.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). All the local ports are nearing full capacity and the new facility would provide additional loading space.

If approved, construction would begin in 2018 and take about six years to complete.

As Robin Silvester, President and Chief Executive Officer of Port Metro Vancouver, said: ”The region is running out of room to manage growing Canadian trade with Asia. This new terminal would ensure demand can be met while providing important economic benefits to B.C. and Canada. We look forward to the upcoming review of our environmental assessment by an independent panel."

Another commercial dock is upcoming in Antwerp port

Belgium authorities are planning the building of a new, bigger dock which is scheduled to have extra 11 mln TEUs of container capacity annually.
At present, Antwerp port has 9.5 % growth in container shipments in the first decade 2015, comparing to the same period in 2014. The new terminal at Saeftinghe dock is planned to start working in 2021 which will cost government around $ 751.5 mln. Meanwhile MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) will move its operations from Delwaide dock to Deurgang terminal at port of Antwerp.
