New Asia - US West Coast Service

As per the Denmark-based shipping company Maersk, there is a growth in transpacific cargo volume. As a prompt reaction to growing demands Maersk shipping line added new service from California to Asia starting from 15 September.

Six 4,000 TEUs vessels will weekly follow the below route:

Yantian, Shanghai (China), Busan (South Korea), Los Angeles/Long Beach (US)

According to the Head of Maersk Line’s East-West Network, this is a long-term decision to meet customers' needs

Tema Port Expansion

Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has announced Oct 1,2016 as the start date of the USD 1.5 billion Tema Port expansion project.

Among the facilities to be added are four deep-water berths and an access channel able to handle the largest containerships, resulting in additional 3.5 million TEUs in annual throughput capacity.

The project will increase trade and links across West Africa, according to GPHA. The adjacent road network will be upgraded as well.

The USD 1 billion financing was secured through the World Bank group.
