Launch of very large ethane carriers

Indian-based Reliance Industries Limited has launched its first two very large ethane carriers (VLEC) in Geoje, South Korea.

The 80,000 cbm vessels Ethane Crystal and Ethane Emerald were built by Samsung Heavy Industries. They are the largest VLECs ever. Reliance is set to add 4 more such vessels at a cost of USD 97.1 million each.

The VLECs will transport liquid ethane from the United States to India.

The construction is being financed through a 12-year loan from Korea Trade Insurance Corporation. The VLECs serve as collateral in the USD 573 million loan.

New Boxships for Maersk Line

Danish container shipping giant Maersk last year was thinking of signing a 1.1 billion contract with shipbuilding companies for 8 new boxships 14.000 TEUs capacity each.
By the luck, this year six Neopanamax 13.100 TEUs containerships from already bankrupted Hanjin Line will come under Maersk ownership under long-term agreement. In total Hanjin had 97 ships all over the globe, all of them are being seized or stranded at the moment.

Maersk is constantly improves its services, and new ships will make the shipping faster and more convenient for all directions.

MSC changes its Asia-USWC/Canada Service

Beginning from the mid of December, Switzerland shipping company will update their service between Asia and US West Coast/Canada. New Orient service will be renamed to Orient and will be connecting ports of Singapore, Shanghai, Long Beach, Busan, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Chiwan, Yantian and Vung Tau. Another service - New Eagle - will be linking Kaohsiung, Xiamen, Busan, Yantian, Shanghai, Vancouver, Seattle, Yokohama and Kaohsiung as Eagle service. At the same time, Jaguar and Pearl services, which belong to MSC, will remain with no changes.

Shipping giant has announced new rotations and upgrades for some of the services.  ​Thereby WAZZAN route connecting West Africa and Morocco. First vessel will depart from Casablanca on the 8th of November and then 3 vessels will continue operation on weekly basis reaching Dakar on the 5th day after departure from Morocco. The updated route for containerships saves 6 days of transit, ports of calls are as follows:

Algeciras, Tangiers, Casablanca, Las Palmas, Dakar, Nouakchott, Nouadhibou, Algeciras.

​Also, the French shipping company revealed plans for temporary changes for the  Asia - ​East Mediterranean ​route for the winter period.​
