Ports America will cooperate with Sydney Harbour Investment Partners in order to develop and promote Novaporte deep-water port in Sydney Harbour. A new Nova Scotia terminal will be capable to accommodate the largest vessels in the world.

Ultra large container vessels will be handled by semi-automated deep-water facility, located on around 500 acres at the Port of Sydney. Novaporte is going to be Ports America-managed facility, as it was agreed for 40 years, handling repairs and maintenance. 

A​s per Ports America chief officer, this is a unique deep-water terminal, that will be ready even for the next generation vessels. ​

New deep-water facility, APM terminals in Izmir, Turkey started container handling this month. On December 6 it welcomed the first boxship Maersk Bulan. 

The new terminal located at Aegean cost and currently it is the biggest container terminal in this region. 

In 2013, operator APM Terminals set up an agreement with Turkish petrochemical company Petkim to work on a new container deep-water terminal at Petkim Port in Izmir for a period of 28  years. 

The new facility is ready to handle vessel of 16 000 TEU and have an annual capacity of 1.3 million TEUs.

Danish-based Dampskibsselskabet Norden A/S has signed a 9-year contract to transport a total of 3.5 million tons of wood pellets from Vancouver and Prince Rupert in Western Canada to Europe.

Starting in 2018, Supramax vessels would make 8 trips annually, taking manufacturer Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc's wood pellets from Canada to Europe. Each trip is expected to take 65 days.

Michael Boetius, Vice President and head of the Industrial Bulk in Dry Cargo at Norden, said: "The contract with Pinnacle provides us with an opportunity to achieve two things: First, the contract ensures that our vessels return with cargo from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean – a route where traditionally there is less cargo to transport. Secondly, the contract cements our already strong position in the biomass market, in which we have built up considerable experience and expertise.” 

Just last week, Norden made a deal to ship 20-24 million tons of coal to a power plant on Luzon Island, the Philippines. The company said that this respresents its largest contract ever.
