New Volumes Record of Savannah Port

The Savannah Port reported the container volume record having moved a total of 4.5 million of containers in the previous year that ended on June 30th.

According to the report, the container volume increased for more than 305 thousand units, or by %7.3.

Georgia Port Authority handled more than half a million container lifts to rail, growing that number by more than 72 thousand, or 16.6 percent.

As was mentioned by the Georgia Port Authority, the investment in the Mason Mega Rail project came just in time for their capacity and helped to stay ahead of demand and ensure the free flow of intermodal cargo.

At the Port of Brunswick, more than 600 thousand autos and machinery units crossed the docks at Colonel’s Island Terminal, the main port for the import and export of cars, trucks, while roll-on/roll-off cargo volume grew by 4 % at Colonel’s Island in 2019.

Georgia Port Authority also has a program in place that will allow the Savannah Port to simultaneously handle six 14,000 TEU vessels by 2024.
The port can currently accommodate three boxships of that size.

New Ultramax For GriegMaas
Dry bulk joint venture GriegMaas has added the Ultramax vessel Star Damon to its fleet.

Grieg Star and investment management firm Maas Capital formed the joint venture in December 2018. Star Damon is the first vessel which GriegMaas bought from Celsius Shipping, with GH Rough Habit being the second one.

With this addition, the GriegMaas bulker fleet consists of three Ultramax and two Supramax ships, all built by Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding of China.

New container record is set

A new record was set recently by the largest container vessel MSC Gulsun while it was departing Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia. It should be noted that the previous container record was set by the same port in Malaysia. This time, MSC Gulsun was loaded with unimaginable 19,574 TEUs  on its board (1 TEU is equal to one 20’ container).

It should also be mentioned that port operates around 12.5 Million TEUs a year, linear berths is more than 5 km in length and it has 58 Super Cranes which can do about 100 moves per hour minimum.  

It was announced by authorities to implement up-to-date technologies that will allow port to continue growth and to avoid unplanned disruption of daily operations. Port should launch new Navis N4 terminal operating system that will provide services with quality and scalability.  

Eagle Bulk Moves Office to Copenhagen
Ship owner and operator Eagle Bulk Shipping has moved one of their commercial offices from Hamburg, Germany to Copenhagen, Denmark.

The company now operates three offices: Connecticut (USA), Singapore and Denmark.

“Given its significant concentration of drybulk activity, we believe that Copenhagen is the ideal location for our European commercial operations,” CEO Gary Vogel said.

Back in July, the company reported a net loss of USD 6 million for Q2 2019, owing to the challenging freight environment in the first six months of the year.

Eagle Bulk has a fleet of 46 vessels with a focus on Ultramax and Supramax ships.
